“I am come that they might have life.” What are some of the reasons why we should return to the Bible?

Can a union of nations save us from the impending war? Never. Just as much as a union of religions can save us from sin. There is only one means to remove all difficulties that have appeared in the world, and this is the Bible.

Christian men and women who have full trust in the Word of God and strive to look at the current events in the light of Bible prophecy are considered old-fashioned, narrow-minded and not keeping pace with the time. But this does not make those friends of the Word of God depart from their conviction that the world is not getting better, but that it is getting worse every day, and that the Coming of Christ is very near.

Every single day evidences again that the conditions in the world are worsening and that the number of evil men is increasing, just as it was foretold in the prophecies which declared that “in the last days perilous times shall come.” 2 Tim. 3:1, 13. And the daily newspapers are full of news which means nothing else than a remarkable fulfillment of these predictions.

In such a time, the true word of prophecy is our only safe guide. Prophecy has already foretold the rise and fall of the ancient kingdoms – Babylon, Medo-Persia, Greece, and Rome. History has recorded the main events connected to each one of them, as each kingdom was given time to manifest its features. One after another, nations were to appear on the scene, take their place, and show whether they would fulfill the plans of the holy Watcher or not. See Dan. 4:16, 23. Yet, one after another, they all rejected Him, and as a consequence, they lost their glory, and their power was taken away.

“And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever.” Dan. 2:44.

Above all the struggles and wars of nations, He whose throne is among the cherubim is still overruling the events of this earth. This is what the history of nations testifies of. To every nation, as well as to every individual, God has determined a special place in his great plan, and today both nations and individuals are being measured in the scales that are in the hands of him who errs not. They are all deciding their destiny by their own choice. Yet God takes care that his plans are fulfilled.

And now the prophecy that the great God Sabaoth has given in his Word, in which events are happening one after another, from the beginning of time till the beginning of eternity, reveals to us where are in the line of time and what we are to expect in the future. The pages of history reveal the fulfillment of all things that were predicted for the past and the present, to this very day, and we can be sure that what is still the future will surely be fulfilled in its time. The signs in our time declare that we are standing just before great and solemn events.

Everything in the world is in commotion. We are witnessing the fulfillment of what Jesus had said about the events that would transpire before His Coming:

“And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars… For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.” Matt. 24:6, 7.

We live in a time when world events attract the attention of people like at other times before. Governors and statesmen, people in responsible and authoritative positions, thinking men and women are carefully watching the events that are transpiring before our eyes. They are following the development of international relations, watching the tensions and conflicts that are constantly increasing, and they are coming to the conviction that something great and deciding is going to take place – that the world is standing before a momentous, fatal decision.

“And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve.” Joshua 24:15.
The Bible and the Bible only is capable of giving us an explanation for all this. The Word of God alone reveals the final events in this world’s history – events that are ready to happen and that make human hearts fail them for fear.

“And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.” Matt. 24:30.

The message of God to the earth’s inhabitants of this time reads: “Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.” Matt. 24:44. The circumstances that affect the lives of men, especially in the large cities, declare with thundering cry that the time for the judgment of God has come and that the end of all things is at hand. The final hour of the decision of all times is before us. The great and momentous events that are to take place should not be a surprise for us when mercy shall no longer be able to cover the unrepentant ones.

For this reason, every one of us should study the Bible with reverence and prayer, to get acquainted with the law of God, to be obedient to it, and by God’s grace to evade the doom that is described in Malachi Chapter 4:

“For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the LORD of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch.” Mal. 4:1.
